This questionnaire is designed to help you reflect on your sexual thoughts and behaviours. It is not a diagnostic tool, but it may help you consider whether your behaviour feels unmanageable or is affecting your life.
Please answer the following questions honestly.
Use the following scale:
Never / Occasionally / Often / Very Often
1. Loss of Control
- Do you find it difficult to control your sexual thoughts or behaviours?
- Have you tried to stop or cut down on your behaviour but found it challenging?
- Do you feel compelled or driven to engage in sexual behaviour, even when you do not want to?
2. Preoccupation
- Do you spend a significant amount of time thinking about sex or planning sexual activity?
- Do sexual thoughts affect your ability to concentrate on work or on daily activities?
3. Escalation
- Have your sexual behaviours become more frequent or more intense over time?
- Are you seeking more daring or more dangerous experiences to achieve the same sense of fulfilment?
4. Emotional Impact
- Do you experience guilt, shame or regret after sexual activity?
- Do you use sex to cope with stress, anxiety, loneliness or low mood?
- Do you experience a cycle of urge → behaviour → relief → regret?
5. Consequences
- Has your behaviour had a negative impact on your relationships?
- Have you been secretive or dishonest about your sexual behaviour?
- Has your behaviour caused issues in your work, finances or personal life?
6. Difficulty Stopping
- Do you find yourself returning to the same behaviours even though you want to change?
- Have you struggled to maintain boundaries around your sexual behaviour?
Understanding Your Responses
If you answered “Often” or “Very Often” to several of these questions, it may indicate patterns commonly associated with sex addiction or compulsive sexual behaviour.
This does not define you, but it may indicate that your behaviour has become difficult to manage alone and could benefit from additional understanding and support.
Next Steps
Many people experience these patterns in silence, often feeling ashamed or confused. However, these behaviours are more widespread than many realise and can be addressed effectively with the right support.
Therapy can help you understand the underlying drivers of your behaviour, develop healthier coping strategies, regain a sense of control, and improve your relationships and emotional wellbeing.
